Treasure Island is a pleasant and attractive city located in Pinellas County in the state of Florida. It is 22 miles southwest of Tampa, Florida and 5 miles west of St. Petersburg, Florida. The city had a population of 7,521 as of the 2006 US census. The island was originally inhabited by small population of the Timucua Indian tribe. The city got its name when a number of land owners buried wooden chests and later “discovering” them in order to increase the sale value of their property. The news spread like wildfire and the island came to be known as Treasure Island.
