Affordable Comforts in Santo Domingo

As the capital of the Dominican Republic, the city of Santo Domingo is well-known for its historical landmarks and warm tropical climate. It is the oldest city established by Europe in the Americas and UNESCO has included its old town in their World Heritage List. 


The city is founded by the Bartolome Columbus who is the brother of Christopher Columbus in 1496 and it was the city where the Spanish colonial empire established their first seat of government in the New World. Today, the city is considered as the commercial and economic center of the whole Caribbean region and is also one of the most populous.


Tourism is also a thriving industry within the city’s boundaries. This is mainly because of the Colonial Zone which lies along the western side of the city’s main river and facing the beautiful Caribbean Sea. This zone houses the oldest neighborhoods where tourists can enjoy stunning old Victorian houses. The El Malecon, which offers wonderful beachfront views, is also a tourist magnet because it is where most of the city’s casinos, hotels and monuments are rooted.
