The city was established in 1887 by a Chicago wholesale grocer named Joseph Whitaker who used his 690 acre property to build a new town instead of a cattle ranch. Today, Buena Park is primarily a residential area.
Buena Park is blessed with a mild climate with pleasant summers complemented by a cool breeze and moderately cool winters where snow is rare. Named as the Center of the Southland, the city features a number of tourist attractions such as Knott's Berry Farm, Ripley's Believe It or Not!, and Movieland Wax Museum.
